Office of State Budget and Management Delivers School Supplies in Vance County
As students head back to school, State Budget Director Kristin Walker delivered school supplies to L.B. Yancey Elementary. Staff at the Office of State Budget and Management (OSBM) collected the school supplies as part of Governor Stein’s School Supply Drive. Along with delivering supplies, Director Walker had the opportunity to tour the school, step into classrooms, and read to two kindergarten classes.
"I am grateful for the generosity of fellow state employees in support of our public schools and their students with these supplies,” said Director Walker. “Public schools and their staff dedicate everything to serving students and it’s rewarding to play a small part in supporting our public educators.”
After visiting Vance County earlier this year for a rural-listening session, Director Walker was excited to return to the area. Topics addressed in the listening session included funding for public education and comments from educators. Research shows that North Carolina public teachers spend an average of more than $1,600 a year out of their own pockets on school supplies.
Director Walker was joined by Vance County Schools Superintendent Dr. Ross-Putney, Principal Branch, and L.B. Yancey Elementary teachers and staff. L.B. Yancey Elementary is part of the Vance County School System, which serves approximately 5,000 students.
About the Governor’s School Supply Drive
The Office of the Governor has partnered with the State Employees Credit Union and Communities in Schools of North Carolina to encourage North Carolinians to donate school supplies to local classrooms. The Office of the Governor and cabinet agencies collect donations throughout the supply drive and provide the donated supplies to various schools across North Carolina.
