Hosororo Secondary poised to redefine education in Region One
Hosororo Secondary School is poised to become a transformative centre for education in Region One, combining modern academic facilities with specialised technical training to prepare students for opportunities within their communities and beyond.
The Ministry of Education, in a Facebook post on Sunday, showcased the school’s development following a recent visit by Minister of Education Sonia Parag, Permanent Secretary Shannielle Hoosein Outar, Chief Education Officer Saddam Hussain and Assistant Chief Education Officer Secondary Sherwyn Blackman.
Located in the Mabaruma Sub District, the institution has been developed to expand access to quality secondary education while creating an environment where students can pursue academic studies alongside practical skills training.
During the visit, Minister Parag said the development represents an important step in creating the conditions necessary for students and teachers to thrive.
“We can have all of the students in, where we can have the teachers comfortably accommodated and provide that kind of access to education that we really wanted to,” the minister noted.
Importantly, the investment extends beyond infrastructure, the school is being positioned around an education model that connects classroom learning with the practical demands of the region.
Assistant Chief Education Officer Secondary Sherwyn Blackman said students will be exposed to a range of technical disciplines, including furniture making, building technology, AutoCAD and small motor repairs.
“The big push is also on TVET and ensuring that every child can leave a secondary school with a skill in TVET,” he said.
The emphasis on technical education is intended to give students competencies that can translate into employment, entrepreneurship and services relevant to the needs of communities across the Mabaruma Sub District.
The school features smart classrooms and specialised laboratories for Information Technology, Biology, Chemistry and Home Economics, together with facilities dedicated to Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
Modern dormitories and teachers’ living quarters further strengthen the school’s capacity to accommodate students and educators, particularly those from surrounding communities who require residential facilities to access secondary education.
